ZIEXTENZO may be administered by you, a caregiver, or a healthcare provider

Your healthcare provider can administer ZIEXTENZO for you.

Self-administration from home is also possible, and is a convenient option when traveling to your healthcare provider is a challenge. Your healthcare provider will train you on how to inject ZIEXTENZO. They will explain what dose you should administer and how frequently it should be injected.

You should not attempt to give yourself a subcutaneous injection until you have received the appropriate training from your healthcare provider. For more detailed administration guidance, please review the Instructions for Use that came with your prescription.

How to inject ZIEXTENZO

Before you begin

  • Gather an alcohol wipe, a cotton ball or gauze pad, a sharps disposal container, and an adhesive bandage
  • Do not open the carton until it is ready to use. When ready, remove the tray containing the ZIEXTENZO prefilled syringe from the carton and place it unopened on your clean work surface for at least 15 to 30 minutes so that it can reach room temperature
  • Do not use the ZIEXTENZO prefilled syringe if the seal of the tray is broken
  • Do not remove the needle cap until just before injection
  • Decide where to inject ZIEXTENZO
    • ZIEXTENZO may be self-administered in the front of the thighs or the lower abdomen (except within 2 inches of the belly button)

DO NOT inject areas where skin is tender, bruised, red, scaly, or hard.

What you need before injecting ZIEXTENZO and where you can inject it.
1. GET READY

Remove the ZIEXTENZO prefilled syringe from its packaging and ensure the liquid is clear and colorless to slightly yellowish. Also make sure that the needle guard has not been activated (if the clear needle guard is covering the needle cap, the needle guard has been activated). If the liquid is cloudy or filled with particles or if the needle guard is activated, DO NOT use this syringe. Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe.

1. Get Ready.
2. INSERT NEEDLE

Carefully pull the needle cap straight off to remove it from the ZIEXTENZO prefilled syringe. Gently pinch the skin at the injection site and insert the needle at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees, as shown. Keep the skin pinched, and push the needle all the way in to ensure that the medication can be fully administered.

2. Insert needle.
3. INJECT UNDER THE SKIN

Hold the prefilled syringe as shown, and slowly press down the plunger as far as it will go until the plunger head is completely between the needle guard wings. Remember to keep the skin pinched while injecting.

3. Inject under the skin.
4. FINISH UP

Keep the plunger fully pressed down while you carefully pull the needle straight out from the injection site and let it go off your skin. Slowly release the plunger to allow the needle guard to automatically cover the needle. If there is any blood, press a cotton ball over the injection site and cover with a bandage, if needed. Do not rub the injection site.

Discard your used prefilled syringe in an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container immediately after use. If you do not have an FDA-approved sharps container, you may use a container that:

  • Is made of a heavy-duty plastic
  • Can be closed with a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid, without sharps being able to come out
  • Is upright and stable during use
  • Is leak-resistant
  • Is properly labeled to warn of hazardous waste inside the container
4. Finish up
